Free Knit Pattern-- Nautical Tote





A simple tote with a touch of lace makes for a beautiful addition to your bag collection. With signature nautical colors, this bag is sure to catch everyone's eye. 

The Nautical Tote is a beautiful and simple bag that includes both knit and crochet. The body of this tote is knit while the handles are crocheted. The body includes some eyelet v-stitches to make it stand out a little from just a plain colorblock tote.

Materials

-5.0mm knitting needles
-4.5mm crochet hook
-a skein of Loops and Thread Impeccable in colors gold, pale gray, and sapphire
-tapestry needle


Gauge 

Crochet straps: every 16 stitches equal 4 inches

Tote Body: every 25 rows and 18 stitches equal 4 inches



Measurements

The tote panels are approximately 12 inches long and 10.8 inches wide.

The straps have are approximately 20.5 inches long and will have approximately an 18 inch drop after it is sewn onto the tote.

k2tog-knit 2 together
skpo-slip 1 knitwise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over
sk2po-slip 1 knitwise, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over

yo-yarn over
trC-triple crochet
dc-double crochet


Notes


To alter the length, crochet more rows for a longer tote and less for a shorter tote.


For a smaller or wider tote, simply cast on in multiples of 12+1.


To make your handle straps longer increase the number of beginning chains. To shorten them, decrease the number of beginning chains.







Pattern

Tote Panel (Make 2)

With your 5.0mm knitting needles cast on 49 using color gold.

Row 1 (RS): knit


Row 2: purl


Row 3: k4, yo, skpo, k1, k2tog, yo, *k7, yo, skpo, k1, k2tog, yo; repeat from * to the last 4 sts, k4


Row 4: purl


Row 5: k5, yo, sk2po, yo, *k9, yo, sk2po, yo; repeat from * until you reach the last 5 sts, k5


Row 6: purl


Row 7: knit


Row 8: purl


Row 9: k1, *k2tog, yo, k7, yo, skpo, k1; repeat from * to the end


Row 10: purl


Row 11: k2tog, yo, k9, *yo, skpo, yo, k9; repeat from * until you reach the last 2 sts, yo, skpo


Row 12: purl


Row 13-20: repeat rows 1-8


Change to color Pale Gray


Row 21: knit


Row 22: purl


Row 23-30: repeat rows 21 and 22


Change to color Sapphire


Row 31: knit


Row 32: purl


Row 33-76: repeat rows 31 and 32


BO knitwise



Handle Straps (Make 2)

With your 4.5mm crochet hook, chain 82 with color Sapphire.

Row 1: trC into the 3rd chain from your hook, trC until the last st, dc. 


Fasten off. 


Tote Assembly

With your tapestry needle, mattress stitch down the sides and across the bottom of the tote panels. Taking one of your handle straps, sew one end between the 1st and 2nd v-eyelets.

Carefully without twisting the strap, sew on the other end between the 3rd and 4th V-eyelets. Repeat on the other side of the tote. 


Weave in all loose ends and enjoy!
