Wildflower Cardi Crochet Pattern

The Wildflower Cardi crochet pattern is an intermediate pattern that shows off beautiful flower motifs. This fairly quick crochet pattern is the perfect garment to throw over a spring dress or even a tank top with a pair of shorts.

The Pattern

The Wildflower Cardi an intermediate crochet pattern that will require some concentration in the beginning but eventually will come with ease as you work through the repeats. This pattern has an eight-row repeat and shows a beautiful flower stitch throughout. Three panels are crocheted: the back, left and right front panels. Seaming with a tapestry needle will not be required because the panels are seamed by single crocheting the edges together.

The Wildflower Cardi crochet pattern is a very detailed pattern that has gone through multiple calculations to be size-inclusive. With its large number of stitch repeats, the motif had to be broken down to match measurements.

The cardigan has a positive ease of 6-8 inches, which is roughly 3-4 inches of positive ease for the back panel. The front panels are purposely shorter in width to leave it as an open cardigan.

The yarn used for this cardigan was Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek DK. Although this yarn has been categorized as a yarn weight of 3, it is more like a category 2. I highly recommend using a fingering weight yarn for this pattern.

Blocking is required to reveal the beautiful wildflowers.

The Design Story

Designer showing the back of the Wildflower Cardi.

The Wildflower Cardigan was an original piece that I designed that was supposed to be featured on Yarn Punk in the summer of 2020. However, due to the pandemic, the creator behind this blog, Vincent, offered that I keep the design for myself in hopes to help my business during difficult times.

Crochet lacework was something that I never thought I would do but I wanted to design something that was elegant and yet made a statement for the spring/summertime. I am happy that I took on the challenge of designing this piece as it is a beautiful addition to any spring or summer look.

The Wildflower Cardi design was finished last year and only now coming out for spring this year. The truth is, I was really scared to have this design tested because of the intricate grading that had to take place in order to offer the many sizes.

I'm happy to report that testing for this pattern was one of the smoothest tests that I've hosted.  Down below, you can view the beautiful Wildflower Cardis that my wonderful testers have made.

The Pattern

The Acorn Cardigan is an advanced-beginner bulky weight knitting pattern. The cardigan has a positive ease of 6 inches in the bust and positive ease of an inch in the arms. The body is worked bottom-up and the sleeves are worked in the round. All pieces are seamed together and stitches are picked up for the collar.

Design Story

The Acorn Cardigan was designed specifically for my aunt who enjoys receiving handmade garments by yours truly. I tried knitting her a cardigan designed by another blogger. Unfortunately, the fit wasn't right and my aunt and I both agreed that I should do the designing of her next best and favorite cardigan.

So, what did I do? Yes, I unraveled that whole cardigan stitch by stitch. It hurt to see each stitch disappear as I pulled the yarn but something great came out of that yarn.

The yarn used for this knit project was Lion Brand's Color Made Easy in Kombucha. It is a bulky weight yarn that works up quickly and does great in both the washer and dryer.

Design Story

According to Dictionary.com, the definition to silver lining is "a sign of hope or a positive aspect in an otherwise negative situation. The phrase is often seen as part of the proverb... meaning that there's hope or something good to be found in every bad situation."

Before we headed into this crazy year of lockdowns and social distancing, I designed a cardigan that spoke elegance, femininity, and modesty. In a world that sells sex through all platforms of media, I strive to create designs that convince ladies everywhere that you do not need to wear less to be sexy. You can still be this beautiful person without having to show off every bit of skin that you have. What makes you beautiful is what is inside: your humble heart.

The Pattern

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi is a fitted cardigan worked bottom-up with set-in sleeves with 2 strands held together. The yarn used was Yarn Bee 44th Street in Mustard. Roughly 2,000 yards of yarn are needed to complete the only size offered at the moment. The yarn is considered a category 3 (DK) but is a thinner DK weight yarn and can be found at Hobby Lobby.

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi is only offered in size XS/S. Unfortunately, I was unable to figure out the math for this particular design specifically because of the front panels. I am hoping to figure out the grading for this irresistible cardigan next spring. Stay tuned!

Design Story

I was inspired to design this cardigan after watching both the Korean drama and movie of the webtoon, Cheese in the Trap. I had originally thought of making this cardigan a plain yellow garment but another big-time blogger came out with something similar. To not become a "copy-cat", I decided to design my cardigan more fitting to the name I decided to give it.

When I think of cheese, Swiss cheese always comes to mind which happens to be one of my favorite cheeses. (Brie cheese comes in first place in my heart though.) To represent that holey Swiss cheese, I used the beautiful diamond lace stitch to complete the look.

A lot of time was spent calculating out this detailed garment and I am truly pleased with the way it came out.

The Cheese in the Trap Cardi was a fun design to create and also my favorite out of all the garments that I have designed thus far. Because of this, it makes me sad that I am not able to have this pattern size inclusive. (One day, it will. I promise.)

Premium Crochet Pattern-- Pumpkin Spice Cocoon

Friday, December 13, 2019

Meet the Pumpkin Spice Cocoon everyone! I just love designing cocoons. Not only pretty but really practical. Just throw on a shrug over your clothes and BAM! You got a complete ensemble. The crochet cocoon has the most amazing texture. It really pops and there's just no way you won't get compliments wearing it.

It's been a while since I picked up my crochet hook and designed something. I've been hooked on knitting lately but I knew that I needed to make a new crochet design. I love how quick crochet is. It takes me a fraction of the time to design a crochet garment than it does knitting for the obvious reason that you can double up on the height of the stitches with crochet. Don't get me wrong though. It took me awhile to get this design together. I frogged it 4 times total. People don't call me the frogging queen for nothing. I had this cocoon nearly finished and then frogged the entire thing because I was not happy with the way it came out especially with my gauge.

Who here is a tight crocheter? I definitely lean towards the side of being a tight crocheter and had to learn how to loosen up. I would always start off great only to find out that I would crochet tighter and tighter as the rows continued.

Anyways, I hope that you enjoy this crochet pattern. And remember tight crocheters, relax and let it loose when you crochet cause you'll definitely need it for this one.

Free Crochet Pattern-- Fauxy Cocoon

Thursday, February 14, 2019

The Fauxy Cocoon is by far my most worn crocheted item that I personally designed. The shrug is made with Lion Brand's Go For Faux and Coboo. Not only are these two yarns soft, it really brings the heat. If you are someone who easily gets cold, please don't hesitate with this one. You will want to hibernate in it all winter long.

When Lion Brand released the Go For Faux yarn, I couldn't resist ordering a dozen skeins of it and I am so glad that I did. I couldn't stop petting the skeins when my box arrived and then it dawned on me that I had no idea what to do them. Then I wondered how this yarn would feel like if I had it wrapped around my body. I'm so happy that I ended up designing this cocoon because it saved me from a very cold winter last year.

Pattern

For the ad-free and inexpensive PDF version, please visit Etsy or Ravelry. The PDF version comes with additional step-by-step pictures for the collar and cuffs.

-4 (6) skeins of Lion Brand Coboo in Pink

-5.5 mm hook
-tapestry needle
-lint roller

Gauge

Body: every 7 stitches and 4 rows = 4"
Ribbing: every 6 stitches and 7 rows = 2"

Measurements

The body (essentially a rectangle) in S/M is roughly around 33“ x 36” and for L/XL 35”x 38”.
For S/M, the width of your rectangle should measure 33" across and for L/X 35" across. Adjust your tension or switch to a different hook size if needed.

Small/Medium: Wrist to Wrist 50 “, Length from top to bottom 38”
Large/X-Large: Wrist-to-Wrist 52”, Length from top to bottom 40”

Keep in mind that when worn, it has the ability to stretch.

Abbreviations

ch- chain
slst- slip stitch
st(s)- stitch(es)
sp(s)- spaces
sc- single crochet
dc- double
dc2tog-double crochet 2 together
rSC- reverse single crochet

Notes

Please check your gauge. I recommend doing a swatch before beginning. Adjust your tension or hook size to achieve the gauge.
If you would like to make your cocoon smaller or larger, simply chain an odd number plus 4 for your starting chain or simply crochet more rows.
If you are finding your rectangle turning out smaller than anticipated, simply crochet more rows.
Beginning chain counts as a stitch unless otherwise noted.
Sizing available in S/M and L/XL. The pattern is written as follows: S/M (L/XL).

Pattern

Chain 59 (63)
Row 1: dc into the 5th ch from the hook (counts as a dc and a st), *ch 1 and skip a st, dc in the next st* repeat to the end, ch 3, turn your work (57 (28 ch sps and 29 dc), 61 (30 ch sps and 31 dc))
Row 2: ch3, *dc into the next ch sp, ch 1 and skip a st* repeat to the end, dc in the last ch sp, turn your work (57, 61)
Row 3-36 (38) : Repeat row 2

Lay your finished piece on the floor with the foundation chain on the left and the last row on the right.

Fold your piece in half by pulling the top down to the bottom.

With your tapestry needle and some Coboo yarn, sew up the sides stopping at the double crochets after the 7th chain space. (Make sure that all double crochets and chain spaces are aligned to their respective counterparts.)

I used the mattress stitch to seam up the sides of the body.

You should have 14 (16) chain spaces that are not seamed. We will continue working into these chain spaces to create a sleeve.

We will work in one direction for the remainder of the sleeve.
With your 10.0mm hook, attach the faux fur yarn to the last double crochet where you seamed.

Sleeves

Row 1: ch3 (counts as a st and ch 1 and for the remainder of the sleeve), dc into the first ch1 sp, *ch 1 and skip a st, dc into the next ch sp* repeat to the end, ch1 slst into the first ch sp of the row (15 ch sps, 17 ch sps)

Row 3: ch3, dc2tog (insert in the ch sp before and after the previous row’s dc2tog), *ch 1 and skip a st, dc into the next ch sp* repeat until you have two ch sps left, dc2tog, slst into the turning chain (11 ch sps 19 ch sps)
